An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Children's Specialist Nurse - Neurodevelopment , to join our existing team here at Wirral University Teaching Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to:
- Be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, support and management of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) & ADHD, working in collaboration with the existing Neurodevelopmental specialist nurses.
- Act as an information and training resource and educator in the care of the child with ASD & ADHD for the multidisciplinary team, schools, statutory and voluntary agencies, children and their families.
- Manage and coordinate nurse led clinics to share the management of any pharmaceutical interventions as a nurse prescriber adjust drug treatment appropriately working within local agreed guidelines.
About us
We are a small team of neurodevelopmental nurses working within Community Paediatrics. We hold nurse led clinics for children and young people who are prescribed medication for their ADHD and sleep difficulties.
We currently hold 4 clinics a week, consisting of 8 children per clinic, therefore we see approximately 1 600 young people each per year. . We also support the Community paediatricians in the assessment and diagnosis of Autism and ADHD by performing classroom observations and ADOS assessments.
We attend monthly management meetings and twice a month training sessionswithin our service.
We receive internal support from clinical supervision held monthly with the ADHD lead consultant paediatrician and informal support from the broader team.
The department is based in the community hospital as part of APH women's and children's division. As part of community paediatrics we work closely and well with education, clerical support staff, children's outpatients and community paediatricians. We are encouraged to attend training events to support us in our roles. Each day presents its own challenges and enjoyment working with the young people and their individual and specific needs.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.
As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
