Ward Manager Medical Day Case Unit

Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking, professional and friendly Senior Nurse to join the team to provide clinical leadership on the Medical Day Case Unit based in Arrowe Park Hospital.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of high quality care, providing excellent patient experience and will be committed to continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate enhanced clinical knowledge of both day case procedures alongside ambulatory care models of working. This candidate with need to be competent in numerous clinical skills such as venepuncture, complex management of lines/ drains, ANTT practices and pre / post operative recovery monitoring, alongside the ability to prioritise own workload and the workload of other members of the team.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Day Case Unit enables many of our patients to attend as planned day cases and return home the same day.

The Unit works in conjunction with many of the specialities teams including Cardiac, Heart Failure, Frailty, Respiratory, Haematology and Gastroenterology, Diabetic and Endocrine Ambulatory services to promote admission avoidance and deliver safe planned care.

The Unit also offers recovery for Interventional Radiology patients to ensure that they can undergo specialised investigation and be discharged home the same day following a short recovery period.

The main duties of this role include

- Day to day management of the Ward, coordinating, allocating andprioritising the workload so that staff and resources are used efficiently, contributing to the smooth running of the ward

- Training, supervision and appraisal of team

- Ensuring safe staffing levels, producing a safe fair and effective roster and managing sickness and absence in line with the trusts attendance management policy

- Maintain and monitor systems for ensuring staff compliance with mandatory training.

- Collaborate with all members of the wider to ensure efficient running of the ward and safe patient journey

- Have oversight of the ward budget and monitoring and control of expenditure and use of resources.

-Further line management responsibilities - including formal disciplinary, grievances and other meetings relevant to your management role.
