Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Staff Nurse - Orthopaedics

The closing date is 21 May 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an established staff nurse to join our friendly professional team in elective orthopaedics.

The post is for 37.5 hours to be worked over long days or nights when required. Temporary for 12months to cover maternity leave

Ward M2 is a 20 bed ring fenced elective orthopaedic ward based on the Clatterbridge site.

All of our patients are admitted directly to the ward and although primarily we care for patients having arthroplasty surgery we also have patients admitted for upper and lower limb surgery.

There are some exciting plans and developments in progress for the Clatterbridge site which will become the Cheshire and Merseyside Surgical Hub for the region. So now would be an ideal time to join this established and friendly team.

Main duties of the job

M2 orthopaedic is a nurse led discharge ward. There are a team of ward based physiotherapists and occupational therapists whom we work closely with on a daily basis we are also supported by an advanced nurse practitioner.

As the ward is an elective ward we do have quieter periods. During this time it is expected that staff will move to Arrowe Park to support our colleagues. A professional approach to this is expected and required.

Ideally the successful candidate will have orthopaedic experience and a willingness to support and share your knowledge with students and junior members of the team. Knowledge of our computer system Cerner is an advantage but not essential.
