Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transfusion Practitioner at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. We are looking for a committed, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Hospital Transfusion Team and have a key role in improving transfusion safety within the Trust.
Applications are invited from professionals with a keen interest in transfusion practice from both registered nurse (NMC pin) or HCPC registered biomedical scientist backgrounds with relevant experience in an acute hospital setting.
The remit of the role is to promote the Patient Blood Management initiative and ensure compliance with the Blood Safety Quality Regulations 2005.
The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of transfusion training to clinical staff and also driving safe, effective and appropriate use of blood components throughout the Trust.
The post holder will provide expert advice to colleagues on blood transfusion issues and will be responsible for investigating adverse blood transfusion incidents and haemovigilance reporting to SABRE/SHOT.
Individuals will need good organisational ability and have excellent communication and presentation skills. They must be self-motivated and very enthusiastic.
Wirral University Teaching Hospital provides a full range of patient services including specialist neonatal care (level 3 intensive care), women and children's services, A&E, surgical, intensive care and clinical haematology.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the role is to help ensure safe and appropriate transfusions are administered within the Trust.
This will involve:
Training and education
Development and review of policies and guidelines
Investigation of transfusion-related incidents
Provision of expert advice and support to colleagues
Audit of blood transfusion procedures to ensure compliance with local and national guidelines.
