Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a full time, Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant to join a very enthusiastic Maxillofacial team at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital, Merseyside.

The successful candidate would be expected to work closely with bothOral & Maxillofacial Consultant and Orthodontic colleagues to provide a fully comprehensive oral and maxillofacial service to the patients of the Wirral.

Applications for a specialty doctor will also be considered if able to operate autonomously and able to participate in the Consultant On Call rota.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Surgeon will attend out- patient clinics, both general and specialist.

o The undertaking of independent theatre sessions.

o Visits to individual ward-based patients as necessary.

o Attending emergency patients referred by A&E or ward staff as necessary in conjunction with on call DCT.

o Keeping such clinical records as may be required. These must be dated, named clearly and signed, and made at least daily for all inpatients. Other related administrative duties including Discharge and Clinic Letters.

o Supervision of the trainees and middle grades when they are performing clinical duties.

o Co-ordination of junior staff daily and weekly rotas, annual and study leave.

o To agree to read and follow any protocols of medical cover laid down (either in writing or verbally) for the department.
