Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, and proactive radiographer, with a keen interest in ultrasound, to join our Ultrasound Team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH). The post holder will be expected to attend the University of Cumbria, to attain a PgD in Medical Ultrasound with specialities including Obstetrics, Gynaecology and General Abdominal.You will become part of our supportive and dynamic team of sonographers, who take pride in delivering excellent patient care and clinical standards. We have recently developed a new student programme, whereby post holders will be supported by our Principal Lead Sonographer and a named mentor.We provide a 7-day service, across 4 key sites on the Wirral Peninsula. As part of this role, you may be required to work across all 4 sites (Arrowe Park, St Catherine's, Victoria Central and our new Clatterbridge Diagnostic Centre). The service covers both obstetric and general ultrasound departments as well as a variety of sub-specialties including head/neck, MSK and paediatrics.Applicants must hold a recognised radiology qualification (BSc/MSc or equivalent) and be eligible to work in the United Kingdom with HCPC/NMC/ Equivalent registration.Training roles are over full-time hours (8:30-17:00, 5 days p/w). Upon successful appointment, the post holder will be supported with university application.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will be expected to attend university and complete clinical training in: Obstetric, General Abdominal, Pelvis and small parts scanning.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent or degree in Health related subject
  • Registered with HCPC or other Regulatory Body
  • Post Graduate diploma/certificate or equivalent in medical ultrasound, obstetric ultrasound or stand alone Ultrasound qualification if Direct Entry
  • Current up to date portfolio demonstrating interest in Ultrasound
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Basic knowledge of ultrasound scanning
  • Able to communicate emotional, sensitive issues with empathy
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills in ultrasound via additional training or courses
  • Adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct
  • Able to demonstrate computer literacy
  • Understands when to use initiative and when to escalate issues to more senior staff.

  • Evidence of Training/Leadership of students and new staff
