Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk post on Ward M2 Orthopaedic at Clatterbridge Hospital that will provide administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the ward. The successful candidate will be privy to sensitive information in relation to patient's confidential information. Full training can be given although some experience would be beneficial.

This role has a wide variety of administrative tasks that need to be completed. The role is ideal for someone who has willingness to learn new skills, can work in a busy environment. The vacancy is full time 37.5 hrs per week, and the working hours will be from Monday to Friday 07:00 - 15:00. approx

This vacancy is being advertised as an apprenticeship and as such the salary for the role if reflective of this. Those who currently hold and can evidence the essential qualifications need not apply. Your application will not be shortlisted if you hold the essential qualification(s).

Although English and Maths at level 2 is not required for the role, it is a requirement to complete the apprenticeship and need to be in place by the end of the apprenticeship. If you do not hold or cannot evidence English and Maths at level 2 then support will be provided for the successful applicant(s) as part of the Trust's apprenticeship offer. ***

Main duties of the job

  • To check demographic details are correct on admission and discharge. Admit patients on screen.
  • Prepare patient notes for admission.
  • To arrange transport for patients attending other hospitals/departments.
  • To answer the telephone, taking messages or transferring calls as appropriate.
  • To book outpatient appointments prior to patient discharge.
  • To prepare any discharged patients paperwork for scanning.
  • To provide support to nursing staff for general patient requests.
  • Liaise with Informatics regarding electronic equipment.
  • To support Consultants and their team with any clerical issues.
  • To report any computer or technical issues to IT.
  • Assist with completion of friends and family questionnaires
  • complete curtesy follow up call for some discharged elective patients
  • Working with the housekeeper to ensure stationery supplies are available.

  • NVQ 2 in a relevant subject or equivalent experience of working in an administrative role
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent
