Job summary
The post holder will have technical, managerial and supervisory control over subordinate staff and specialist contractors, working within the speciality of Electrical Engineering.
The primary objectives of this position are to ensure that planned preventative and reactive maintenance work, undertaken by in-house maintenance staff and specialist contractors, are provided within predesignated time spans at competitive cost and providing technical input, as required, to ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and legislation.
To minimise disruption to the running of hospital departments.
To manage and arrange shutdowns, connections and adaptations to specialised hospital services which facilitate progress on major capital schemes and minor schemes of a more complex work content. Carrying out estimates for works and working within defined budgets. Acting as authorised persons for specialist services when appropriate.

There is a requirement within this role to work overtime and on call.

Essential
- HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering plus 5 years relevant experience working at degree equivalent professional level
- Advanced craft level qualifications (or equivalent B-Tec) in a electrical or mechanical field which has been studied for whilst completing a recognised apprenticeship (between 4 to 5 years) and have a broad experience (5 years) of work undertaken by multiskilled craftsperson.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Experience of managing directly employed labour and external contractors.
- Computer literate with good keyboard skills. Capable of using a variety of computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, planning tools, building management systems.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation.
- Skills to be able to read and interpret technical drawings, reports and technical literature, within area of specialty, as and when required.
- Have completed relevant Health and Safety training.
- Able to manage and resolve conflict within the area of responsibility.
- Able to share expertise with others.
- Able to provide clear instructions when working under pressure or in emergency situations.
- Previous use of procedures for managing absenteeism, staff discipline and grievance.
