Job summary
The post holder will have responsibility to act as a Unit Manager, deputising for the Clinical Lead. They will have a supervisory role within the Nuclear Medicine Team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality Nuclear Medicine service. They will make an active contribution to the overall development and direction of the service.
They will also deputise with the line management of the Nuclear Medicine Team for the Clinical Lead, as required by the role. They will have significant experience, skills, and expertise in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine, including radiation protection and legislation and regulatory framework pertinent to Nuclear Medicine.
In addition to this, they will adhere to and promote Trust values when carrying out their role.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will ensure the continuous provision of a safe, professional, and high-quality Nuclear Medicine service to patients and other service users. They will ensure that the Nuclear Medicine Department procedures are carried out in accordance with local and national regulations, guidance, and legislatory framework.
The postholder will supervise, formulate and audit all training competency documents to maintain a framework for the training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. This will include competencies for administration of radiopharmaceuticals, use of complex equipment, I.V. cannulation and ECG interpretation, as well as supervising and developing other medical staff within the Nuclear Medicine Team on a daily and continuous basis.
The postholder will take sole responsibility in the professional and safe leading the Cardiac Stress sessions within the Nuclear Medicine Department. This will also involve the direct supervision of junior colleagues during the session. The Advanced Practitioner role will include the supervision and responsibility for the safe and correct dosage and administration of pharmacological stress agents such as Adenosine. The post will also facilitate an in-depth knowledge of the ECG to recognise and act upon any changes which may be detrimental to patient safety without supervision. There will be a requisite for a detailed knowledge of drug interactions and possible adverse effects associated with the procedure.
About us
Our Nuclear Medicine department is a small, friendly team consisting of 3 Radiographers and a Clinical Support Worker. We are self contained within the Imaging Department and have a single hybrid Siemens T16 Gamma Camera. We perform a wide range of Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine investigations within a busy district general Hospital.
