Job summary

The post-holder will be a specialist in Cancer and Clinical Trials with a specialist knowledge of the electronic SACT e-prescribing system, Chemocare. The post-holder will have the opportunity to enhance their professional development through various avenues. These include participating in patient-facing clinics alongside consultants, specialist nurses, and pharmacists, attending specialist conferences, and having dedicated time for independent prescribing practice. Additionally, they will have the choice to further develop and complete their master's qualification to broaden their expertise.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide services to outpatient oncology/haematology.
  • Educate patients and parents about chemotherapy and supportive care.
  • Clinically Screen Oncology and Haematology prescriptions and advise the Chemotherapy Unit (CTU) as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership for the governance and operation of the SACT e-prescribing system (ChemoCare).
  • To lead, manage and develop the Pharmacy clinical trials service, ensuring an efficient, effective and safe service is provided for patients participating in clinical trials.

The Pharmacy Service operates across three acute clinical Divisions and across the Community Services Division provided by the Trust. Applicants will be able to demonstrate significant experience managing a clinical pharmacy service. The post holder will be a key member of the Pharmacy Team working closely with stakeholders within Pharmacy and the Surgery Division.

Applicants must be able to contribute to the delivery of the strategic aims of the Pharmacy Service, aligned to the overall Trust objectives, within set financial constraints as well as deliver agreed cost improvement targets on an annual basis.

  • Professional registration as a Pharmacist in the UK, through practitioner Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy diploma OR postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate completed and working towards postgraduate Clinical Diploma (to be completed within 12 months of appointment) OR at least 12 months of appointment) OR at least 2 years post qualification experience with at least 6 months of those within specialist area
  • Sufficient hospital pharmacy experience (as a registered pharmacist) to have acquired the competencies needed for the job.
  • Specialist services relevant to the post (e.g. oncology/hematology/clinical trials )
