Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, addressing the increased capacity needs in preparation for the upcoming opening of the Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital later this year.

In response to the anticipated rise in Emergency Department attendance from neighbouring areas, we are opening a new ward. Initially, this ward will cater to general medical patients, with the potential to expand and provide care for acute medical patients, presenting an exciting opportunity for growth.

The successful candidate will ensure the ward promotes a positive patient experience. We need you to be able to work as part of a team, undertaking clerical duties within the Ward environment, providing assistance to, patients, relatives, nursing staff and assist the manager in administration tasks.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  1. To provide full clerical support to Ward by:-
  2. Ensuring that medical records are obtained and prepared for use by medical staff.

Maintaining such records in an organised state throughout the patient's stay in hospital, which will include the filing of examination reports.

  1. Ensuring that the administration records of patients are completed on admission and discharge, and that the non-medical data is accurate. Completing daily statistical returns.
  2. Assisting Ward nursing staff with the discharge arrangements for patients, which will include arranging follow up appointments, transport, social services support and the availability of EDS for discharge along with post-discharge follow up phone calls.
  3. Ensuring ward stationery is ordered and maintained and that patient's mail is distributed.
  4. Undertaking telephone duties, gaining assistance from nursing staff where necessary.

In addition the post-holder will:-

  1. Undertake a messenger service for the ward as required by the nursing
  2. Data input - ward based computer.
  3. Provide an other secretarial support to the ward as determined by the Ward Manager.
