Job summary
We are seeking 1 full time 37.5 hours Epilepsy Clinical Specialist Nurse.
The successful applicant will be based at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. You will work Monday to Friday 9-5 with some flexibility dependent on clinical need.
The Epilepsy service is growing and developing, we recognise the need for development for a motivated registered nurse. Therefore, applicants with significant neurology and/or epilepsy experience will be considered for the Band 6 development post as part of a structured developmental plan for the Epilepsy CNS post.
The expectation for the band 6 development post will be to complete the independent prescribing course with progression to the band 7 role following completeness of Epilepsy Nurse competencies. During your development you will support a caseload of epilepsy patients and as you develop you will have a greater level of autonomy reviewing patients independently
The applicant with an Epilepsy/Neurology background will require the
Independent prescribing course.
The service will support a robust development plan to ensure you are able to function at the high autonomous level required for safe and competent practice within epilepsy.
You will be supported by 2 Neurology Consultants and 2 Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Our neurology team works in collaboration with University Hospital Birmingham.

Main duties of the job
To work in conjunction with Consultant Neurologist and CCG to develop Epilepsy Services for patients within the Walsall area to develop an integrated approach to Epilepsy Management.
To provide educational advice and support to patients, carers and staff involved in caring for Epilepsy patients.
The role involves both a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Advanced Practitioner role to support the care of patients within the Walsall area accessing the Neurology Service.
To provide continual assessment and monitoring of the needs of those with acute and chronic epilepsy and provide psychological assessment of those with multifaceted seizure disorders (epilepsy and non-epilepsy) and concomitant and behavioural sequelae.
To provide in reach to wards and ED for patients known to the Epilepsy service.
