An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children's nurse to undertake the role of a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse on Ward 21 our acute inpatient unit at Walsall Manor Hospital.
It is an exciting time to join the paediatric team at Walsall due to the expansion and progression of our service. The unit is leading the way in progressing virtual wards and a new team structure is creating a new dynamic way of team working.
Ward 21 is 21 bedded acute unit looking after children and young people aged 0-16 years. We care for patients under the following specialties, Surgical, acute medical, ENT and trauma and orthopedics.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist the senior sister in the leadership and management of ward 21.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the co-ordination of the unit, ensuring patient safety and patient flow.
You will need be confident and competent to lead and support the nursing team in delivering high quality patient care.
You must have significant experience of working as a band 5 paediatric nurse in acute setting.

Manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision andsupport to junior members of staff.
Support the Senor Sister to monitor the safety and quality of careensuring the provision of safe, quality care and treatment for patients which delivers the best clinical outcomes and patient experience.
To be a positive role model for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust at all times and promote the trust values
Maintains a safe level of nurse staffing and escalates to senior sisterwhen this cannot be achieved
Participating in the Trusts IPDR process
Assist in the recruitment, retention and selection of staff
Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information andsupportingcolleagues, including support staff to promote a cohesive ward team and theachievement of team objectives.
