Job summary

An Apprentice is expected to expand and broaden their skills and abilities. Nonetheless, they must operate at all times under the direct supervision of a senior member of staff, unless operating according to agreed procedures that have been approved by the department.

Whilst in the trainee role the apprentice will develop the knowledge and skills to enable them to be able to full deliver the job description below once they are qualified and registered with the NMC.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required:

  • To achieve registered midwife apprentice standard within the specified time frame by working in partnership with the university and the Trust undertaking a midwifery training programme
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme.
  • Undertake any necessary home work during the length of the course.
  • To assist with the direct care of patients under supervision from a registered midwife/ healthcare assistant.
  • To provide support to the nursing team working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing positively to the delivery of high quality compassionate care.
  • To uphold the fundamental standards of safety and quality always putting the patients first and protecting them from harm

We take great pride in promoting midwifery by delivering holistic women-centred care to our diverse local community.Following a review of midwifery services we now have the opportunity to advertise for midwifery apprentices to work in all areas including continuity of carer team models, Delivery suite, Freestanding Midwifery Led Unit and the maternity inpatient wards. There may also be opportunities to work in the community midwifery service and antenatal clinic. In addition, consideration will also be given to suitable candidates for the new Professional Midwifery advocate role on a sessional basis as part of your substantive role.

OCR Cambridge L3 Technical Extended Diploma - grades DMM

CACHE Level 3 Diploma at a B grade

Access to HE Diploma (60 credits) in a health or science based subject of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 (112 UCAS point equivalence). If you do not have GCSE Science grade C/4+ /equivalence, an additional 12 Level 2 science credits (biology, chemistry or physics) within the Access can be accepted as GCSE Science grade C/4+ equivalence. Evidence of GCSE grade C+/4 (or equivalence) including an English-based subject, Maths and a Science.PLUS GCSE English and Maths Grade C/4+ or equivalent
