Apprentice: PHARMACY ASSISTANT ( Rotational)
1 x fixed term for 18 months
1 x 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday working morning, afternoon and late shifts on rotation.
Working Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays on rotation.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to take an assessment test at interview.
Salary will be paid as per apprenticeship rates dependent on age of applicant
Main duties of the job
We have an opportunity to recruit an apprentice to join the Pharmacy department as a rotational Pharmacy Assistant (Apprentice) and train in a General Pharmaceutical Council Accredited qualification at Level 2. Upon successful completion of the qualification you will have the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviour of a pharmacy assistant.
The post is also an entry point into pharmacy and provides a gateway to progress into a career as a pharmacy technician.
In order to be able to meet the entry criteria to be able to apply for our apprentice pharmacy assistant post you must already hold at least 4 GCSEs and must include Maths, English and a science subject at Grade C or level 4 and one subject at Grade D or level 3 or above at the start of your apprenticeship.
The qualifications required for this post and the qualification gained at level 2 would also be a route in to progress as a pharmacy technician if desired.

Join our team of enthusiastic pharmacy staff to support the timely supply of medicines to patients.
Our training will support you to carry out the main duties of the role and any additional development needs will be identified through regular review and feedback during your qualification.
Main rotational duties include
- Labelling and dispensing medicines for prescriptions in our main pharmacy and satellite outpatient pharmacy. There will also be a requirement to dispense more complex medicines for our specialist clinics areas such as the Sexual Health clinic and external hospices. A future development will see the department increasing dispensing at ward level through use of our automated medicines cabinets to help expedite discharge.
- Replenish stock for the automated medicines cabinets at ward level using keyboard skills to obtain reports and update records of new items placed in the cabinet.
- Entering data onto computer systems such as the prescription tracking system, associated programs to update our robot and following an check of stock at ward level (topping-up)
- Receive stock from wholesalers, checking medicines received against our orders and working to store medicines safely within the department.
- There will also be a requirement to assist the wider pharmacy team with any audits to ensure the safe and accurate storage of medicines outside of the department comply with Pharmacy and CQC standards.
Applicants must be keen to learn, be hardworking and able to work under pressure during busy periods.
A flexible approach to the above duties is required, together with good communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to prioritise your workload when working on your own or part of the team. Show initiative and represent pharmacy when working with other healthcare professionals.
Successful candidates will support the Pharmacy Technical Managers in delivering high quality, safe and effective pharmacy services in accordance to the Trusts values and its promises and standards to patients and colleagues.
