Job summary

The post holder will work together with members of the Nursing/Midwifery Team within the Accident and Emergency to contribute to the implementation of a high standard and individualised patient centered care under the direction of a registered nurse.

The post holder will communicate effectively with other members of the team, patients and relatives and recognise and report to the appropriate person changes in the patient's condition which may require the intervention of others.

The role involves equipment cleaning, re-stocking of essential clinical items, tidying equipment/treatment rooms together with other specified tasks to meet the patient's needs, as determined by the registered nurse.

The post holder will be required to work closely with the registered nurse, raising any issues regarding quality standards with the registered nurse.

Main duties of the job

  1. To assist in the delivery of quality and safe care of patients is by ensuring the environment and equipment are clean and maintained in accordance with Infection Control and Medical Devices Policies and Guidelines.
  2. To assist the team in meeting patient's basic hygiene needs by ensuring that patient wash bowls are clean in line with Infection Control Guidelines and stocks in ED are maintained.
  3. To ensure the ward is adequately stocked up with PPE.
  4. To ensure all store rooms, treatment rooms and the dirty utility, remain clean, tidy, organized and well stocked.
  5. To assist the ward team in meeting patients' basic elimination needs by ensuring commodes and raised toilet seats etc., are clean and maintained in line with Infection Control and Medical Device policies and Guidelines. That all bathroom and toilet areas are clean and free from clutter.
  6. To assist in fulfilling the patient's nutritional needs by serving meals, feeding patients, providing nutritional supplements as directed and monitoring dietary and fluid intake through the use and maintenance of fluid balance charts, food charts etc and recording patients weight as directed.
  7. To ensure dirty linen is disposed of correctly in accordance to the correct Infection Control guidance.
  8. To support the safe and effective process of barrier nursing by ensuring all safe practice and principles are adhered to.
  9. To assist with bed-making and maintaining the general tidiness and cleanliness of the ward/dept.
