Main duties of the job

Ward Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6

Ward 3 Walsall Manor Hospital has an exciting opportunity to join an established ward area as a band 6 sister/charge nurse. Full time 37.5hrs Working hours are 7am-19.30

Many of the staff on our ward are long standing members of the organisation which reflects on the morale and spirit of the area, they will be able to provide knowledge and experience to guide new members of the team including student nurses and TNA staff.

The position comes under the division of Medicine and long term conditions and covers an array of medical issues and admits patients over the age of 65.

The ward works closely with the palliative care team and has undertaken lots of work to provide essential support to patients and relatives when they most need it, and we pride ourselves on our end of life care, ensuring dignity and a focus on the fundamentals of care.

The successful candidate will need to be passionate about providing quality care for older people and promote independence; we want staff to make a difference, and become a valued member of our long established team.

This role will require a person willing to take charge of the ward daily and manage staff with attendance, work ethic, ongoing training needs, and improvements. You will be asked to take an active role in audits and provide feedback and education to staff and also praise where able.

  • Registered General Nurse
  • ENB 998/D32/D33 or equivalent or evidence of experience
  • Mentors/Assessors/teaching qualification
  • Masters Degree in Nursing/health related subject or clear evidence of working towards
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills training are desirable

Experience

Essential

  • Proven track record of managing a ward area
  • Has managed control of infection as part of their clinical experience
  • Teaching experience and the ability to present effectively
  • Performance management skills
  • Able to conduct audit and implement change to improve patient experience of service
  • Able to manage resources
  • Able to network and establish effective working relationships to impact on collaborative working practice
  • Research appreciation and ability to influence others through research findings
  • Processon of a management qualification or evidence of having undertaken leadershiop skills training is desirable
