Job summary

There's never been a better time to join the Acute care medical team.

The Hospital is currently in the process of designing a new £36m Emergency care department that will include a 37 bedded Acute Care medical unit with state of the art equipment and an enhanced Ambulatory care department . We expect this work to be completed by summer 2022.

The successful candidate will be Working closely with the Care Group Triumvirate - Matron, Clinical Director and Care Group Manager, to be operational responsible for AMU and Ward 29. To ensure there is effective day-to-day clinical and managerial leadership at all times within Acute Medicine. Specifically:

To work closely with colleagues in ED/Community Division, UTC etc identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for closer working and streamlined pathways, ensuring patients are seen in the right place first time

Main duties of the job

  • To effectively deploy medical staff to ensure cost effective use of resources to deliver safe, high quality services delivering the best achievable patient experience in line with Trust objectives with the Care Group.
  • Ensure there are clear line management arrangements in place for all consultants, non-consultant career grade doctors and junior medical staff within the discipline in accordance with current HR policy.
  • To ensure all medical staff undergo appropriate CPD and mandatory training in line with Trust policy and GMC/Royal College requirements.
  • Ensure all doctors maintain their validation with the GMC and report any potential issues to the Medical Director in line with GMC standards.
  • Ensure annual appraisals are undertaken in line with Trust policy. To ensure that there are appropriate appraisers trained within the Department.
  • Ensure job-planning is undertaken annually or when there is a change in service need.
  • Ensure Allocate is updated and all leave requests are approved/declined within the allotted timescales.
  • Support the medical staff in early planning of leave requirements ensuring continuity of Safe, High Quality Patient Services.
  • To ensure appropriate high quality training for doctors, in collaboration with Clinical Tutor and College Tutor and safeguard the working environment of doctors in training.
  • Ensure consultants are appropriately trained to supervise the trainees.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Full MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), European Community Rights or CESR
  • Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Acute Care Medicine (or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview)
  • Adult Life Support (ALS) within last 3 years
