Job summary
We are looking for 2 Consultants in the department of Emergency Medicine whom hold FRCEM or CESR.
The Emergency Medicine Consultant is the pivot of the department offering both clinical and team leadership. Working as part of team of Higher Specialty trainees, Middle Grades, ACPs, ENPs, Junior Doctors: GPVTS, FY2's, FY1's and a skilled nursing team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work 10 basic, plus 1 additional Programmed Activity per week. Participation in a 1:8 Consultant on-call rota during the weekend and a 1:8 Consultant on-call rota during weekdays for the Emergency Department is included in the 11PAs.

The hospital site was substantially redeveloped between 2007 and 2010 and has 550 acute beds. It also comprises of outpatient, diagnostic and treatment facilities for short stay cases whilst the upgraded older building provides emergency care.
Over the last 12 months more than £50m has been invested in healthcare services across the hospital's estate which includes two new, state-of-the-art MRI scanners, the creation of a new 22 bedded Intensive Care Unit and a new Obstetric Theatre and expansion of the Neonatal Unit
The Emergency Department comprises of 19 majors and minors' cubicles, including a designated quiet room. A fully equipped four trollied resuscitation area with near patient testing, ultrasound and facilitation for paediatric resuscitation patients is based within the main department.

- Definitive care of patient attendances
- Immediate resuscitation of critically ill patients and thereafter referral to the appropriate department of those patients who require admission.
- Communication and liaison with other departments within the hospital, both clinical and managerial.
- Communication and liaison with agencies outside the hospital including the emergency services, GP Surgeries and Urgent Care Centres, tertiary trauma centre.
- Responsibility for the supervision, training and education of junior Medical staff, with an active role in the training of nursing and other staff.
- The post holder may be named as the educational supervisor of a number of junior medical staff and supervising the ACPs.
- Dealing with personnel and other managerial issues.
- Continuing development of the service, using audit, the application of evidence-based medicine, support development of IT infrastructure, mentorship programme and streaming pathway.
- Support a culture of learning from excellence as well as learning from mistakes/errors.
