The Clinical Fellowship Programme for Midwives is a new arrival at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust!
Qualified Midwives will get;

The Clinical Fellowship Programme (CFP) has been developed in partnership with The University of Wolverhampton and provides an opportunity for midwives to study up to and including masters level i.e. PG Cert, PG Dip or Masters, all fully funded by the Trust.The CFP starts with the Career and Personal Development Module, Service Improvement Module and Advanced Inquiry Module in year one, before progressing into one of the four fellowship pathways, which are:

Research and Enterprise for those who have an interest in a career within clinical research
Teaching and Learning for those who want a career as a clinical educationalist

- Work within NMC codes of practice and professional guidelines.
- Work autonomously within Trust guidelines and sphere of professional practice with reference to departmental manager as appropriate
- Provide effective and visible clinical leadership
- Advocate and support the rights of individual women to make informed choices about their care
- Participates in high quality care for women and their families, also providing mentorship and professional support to enable students and maternity support workers to do the same.
- Promote equality, diversity and rights.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to enable junior colleagues and student midwives to develop.
- Undertake all mandatory training required by the Trust and specific to midwifery practice.
- Act up for the departmental ward manager/team leader in their absence

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Current NMC Registration demonstrable experience or evidence of band 6 competencies having been approved by professional preceptor/SOM.
- Diploma level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence
- Evidence of a high standard and knowledge of evidence based midwifery care acquired through CPD and experience.
- Successful completion of a mentorship course.
- Level 3 Child protection training. Sound knowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse and women with special needs.
- Basic neonatal and adult life support knowledge and skills
Desirable
- Must have completed Mentorship course (or equivalent) or be prepared to undertake
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Knowledge and experience in all areas of maternity services developed through continuing professional knowledge.
- Demonstrates specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of statutory midwifery supervision.
- Ability to supervise learners.
- Experts for the following procedures: venepuncture, Cannulation, perineal suturing and highly technical monitoring.
- Knowledge and ability to deal appropriately with emergencies in the absence of medical staff.
- Knowledge of Child Protection policy and legislation in practice
Desirable
- Evidence of risk management experience and expertise.
- Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and clinical audit.
- Well developed IT skills.
