Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals for this new Clinical Technologist post based in the Medical Physics Department within the Healthcare Technology Group at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (DCHFT).

Main duties of the job

Appropriate in-house training will be provided as necessary so that the successful applicant can support the full range of activities carried out by the Department, including quality control testing of ionising and non-ionising medical imaging equipment (x-ray, ultrasound and MRI); quality control testing of medical lasers and UV therapy equipment; calibration of audiological equipment; and support to Trust use of medical gases and weighing scales. There will also be the opportunity to develop skills and competency in the use of mechanical workshop equipment and a 3-D printer.

The Medical Physics Service provides scientific support for equipment on site at DCH and at surrounding community hospitals in Dorset, as well as at a number of Community Dental Clinics in Dorset and Somerset.

You will:

  • Be able to prioritise your own workload, and work as part of a team;
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective working relationships, both inside and outside the Trust.

You have:

  • Experience of working in a team;
  • Computer literate, including experience in the use of MS office.

Education, Qulaifications & Training

Essential

  • Hons degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. BSc Clinical Technology or Physics) or equivalent (e.g. HNC/HND)
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) on a register for Healthcare Technologists (e.g. RCT)

Desirable

  • Current Membership of a Professional Body.(e.g. IPEM)

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in a broad range of biomedical sciences / technologies, preferably in an NHS Healthcare Science environment / Medical Physics Department / University

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Techniques required to measure the safety and performance of complex equipment
  • A thorough understanding of the risk and precautions required when working with Medical Devices
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and governance requirements
  • Ability to make accurate and reproducible measurements using complex test equipment
  • Ability in numerical and analytical skills to diagnose faults in highly complex specialist equipment
  • Ability to communicate technical information to colleagues, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Ability to use of IT to set up and manage information using Microsoft office and specialist programs (e.g. Medical Device Management Software, 3-D Printer CAD Software)
