Job summary
Applications are invited for the above vacancy at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester. Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and 12 months paediatric experience at registrar level.
The middle grades participate in a rota based on 40 hours full shift which is EWTD compliant. The trust doctor will be expected to assume clinical responsibility, under the supervision of the consultant paediatrician, for the investigation and management of patients with paediatric medical disorders.
Two posts are currently available - 1 wte permanent post and 1 wte fixed term contract for 9 months.
The Paediatric Department has a broad range of training opportunities and the successful candidate will be offered the opportunity of continuing professional development. Additionally the post holder would be expected to participate in peer supervision and team training programmes.

Main duties of the job
Assume clinical responsibility for patients under the care of the consultant paediatrician and undertake the necessary administrative duties associated with the care of patients
Assume clinical responsibility, under the supervision of the consultant paediatrician, for the investigation and management of patients with paediatric medical disorders
Be competent in paediatric procedures commensurate with a middle grade doctor including the stabilisation of the sick child, newborn life support and child protection assessments
Be responsible for the co-ordination of the care of patients admitted to paediatric beds within Dorset County Hospital in rotation with the other department middle grade doctors and for implementing clinical management decisions taken by the consultants
Be responsible for initiating the treatment of patients admitted for Paediatric medical management.
Attend outpatient clinics, these will primarily be in the Children's Centre at Dorset County Hospital but there may also be a requirement to attend peripheral 'patch' clinics
Supervise the work of the junior doctors and actively participate in their education and training
Participate in the annual appraisal process
Comply with all Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures as well as the legal requirements pertaining to both patients and staff
Participate in the Middle Grade rota and cover this tier for absences for sickness, annual leave and study leave as far as are appropriate.
