Job summary

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team is looking for a Band 6 Practitioner to join and support the Pulmonary Rehabilitation service based at Dorset County Hospital. This is a fixed term vacancy to cover maternity leave. Whilst this is a full-time vacancy, secondment opportunities and part time hours will be considered, and applications are invited from experienced allied health professionals or nurses.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in community settings across Dorset delivering Pulmonary Rehabilitation. We have close links with respiratory and therapy teams in Dorset County Hospital, Primary Care Networks and have well established MDT support.

Dorset County Hospital is the lead provider for Pulmonary Rehabilitation in the County. We workin close collaboration with Dorset Healthcare, running our services from a range of community venues. We are currently working towards achieving national accreditation and are committed to our involvement in the national audit program for Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Staff development and progression is important to us, with regular in-house training and access to external courses. The successful applicant will also gain experience in managerial skills by appraisal and supervision of junior staff and students. Opportunities for project work and service improvement will be available.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties and to carry a significant caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations
  • To work at an advanced level and be professionally and legally accountable for a specialised patient caseload, and decide priorities for own work area, without direct supervision.
  • Be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development. Ensure that your practice meets the required professional standards.
  • Assess patients' suitability to join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program
  • Manage and participate in the patient exercise and education sessions
  • Maintain close links with other members of the respiratory MDT - including DAIRS team & Respiratory Champions in Primary Care
  • Car driver is essential

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Nursing
  • Registered as a Physiotherapist/ Occupational Therapist with HCPC or as a nurse with the RCN
  • Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses
  • Undertaken clinical educators training

Desirable

  • CSP/RCN or RCOT Member
  • Member of special interest groups
  • Undertaken appropriate managerial/leadership training

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Wide ranging rotational physiotherapy /occupational therapy or nursing experience at band 5 level including experience in the specialist area
  • Experience of participating in audit and evidence based projects
  • Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and MDT groups, and evaluating effectiveness of training
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively within MDT
  • Knowledge of evidenced based practice pertaining to the specialist area of Pulmonary Rehabilitation
