Job summary
- The Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist for Orthopaedics at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) provides clinical leadership to therapy staff working in this pathway on this site.
- The post holder is an experienced clinician who independently manages a significant clinical caseload.
- The post holder may be required to work at different sites to provide pre-operative joint classes
- The post holder will be required to work at weekends on a roster basis or on a seven-day rota
- To work closely with the Integrated Team Lead, Trauma Lead, Trauma coordinators and Rehabilitation Consultant to ensure seamless case management for all major trauma patients within the trust.
- A Band 6 to Band 7 Accelerator programme may be considered for a suitable candidate.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be a Registered Allied Health Professional with an specialist interest in Orthopaedics.
- The post holder will be expected to support the Team lead to supervise the day to day running of the team.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties and to carry a significant caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations.
- To work at an enhanced level and to be professionally and legally accountable for a highly specialised patient caseload and to decide priorities for own work area, balancing other patient related and professional demands.

- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, and of the local orthopaedic pathway teams work. This will include the management of clinical risk, clinical governance, knowledge of indications and precautions of chosen techniques in line with national and trust clinical guidelines and protocols where they exist.
