Job responsibilities

The new appointee is expected to participate fully in teaching and audit programs, supervise and teach the specialty doctors and GPVTS. To provide day-case and outpatient ophthalmology services to patients in Dorset. To provide support for in-patients at Dorset County Hospital. To participate in the provision of the acute ophthalmology service. To contribute to the training of junior doctors and other professional team members. To fulfil continuing professional development requirements in line with clinical governance. To participate in audit and clinical governance

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Medical Degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
• Full GMC registration and a license to practice is required
• Postgraduate training in Ophthalmology
• FRCS or equivalent

Experience

Essential

• At least 3 years clinical experience in Ophthalmology
• Evidence of good oral and written communication skills

Desirable

• Sub-specialist interest
• Experience of multidisciplinary working
• Ideally at least 1 year clinical experience in UK
• Evidence of working independently

Skills, Abilities& Knowledge

Essential

• Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
• Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

Audit

Essential

• Knowledge of medical and clinical audit principles and evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months

Research

Desirable

• Knowledge of principles of research
