We are looking to appoint a full time (10PA) Consultant at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be part of the acute medicine department at DCHFT. They will cover the Same Day Emergency care (SDEC) unit and provide support to the Acute Medical Unit (Ilchester Ward). In addition there will be a session available for specialty interests should the post holder wish.
Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has begun work expanding and improving the acute care pathways as part of the Government's Health infrastructure plan. This has allowed us to develop the acute medicine team, working alongside three Acute Medicine Consultants. A new emergency department is currently under construction, and with this an Emergency Zone will be created, allowing short stay patients to be co-located with a medical assessment area and SDEC. It's an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in developing new emergency pathways and making a significant difference to medical admissions at DCHFT.

Main duties of the job
The core service of the post will be to provide senior decision making and procedure support to SDEC. This would typically involve performing and supervising bedside procedures such as ascitic drains and LPs on a semi elective basis as well as reviewing patients seen by the ANPs and SDEC junior doctors. Consultant support will also be available from 0830 to 1900hrs to review patients as felt necessary.
The post will also provide middle grade level support to the junior doctor team on Ilchester and involve reviewing patients on Ilchester depending on the demands from the SDEC unit. Priority will be to SDEC.
In addition, a session has been allocated for specialty clinic to be arranged at the post holders discretion and a further session for clinical admin and supporting professional activities such as involvement in audit.
There are no on-call commitments
The post is not part of the on call.
