Job summary

A wonderful opportunity for a physiotherapist has arisen at Dorset County Hospital to develop and extend their skills working with patients with cancer. The cancer team is a fully integrated team of PT's , OT's, SLT's, support workers and therapy assistants.

You will be predominantly on the inpatient cancer ward supporting patients with their cancer journey whilst, following the Homefirst model.

The cancer therapy team are currently hosting the Wessex Cancer Alliance Right by you Project, which will allow for MDT working into patients homes.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen to join the esteemed Cancer Therapy team as a band 6 Senior Physiotherapist . The team provide therapy to both inpatients and outpatients along the cancer pathway whilst working alongside members of the acute and community MDT's.

You will be working on the wards supporting the D2A model, visiting patients in their home to provide specialist cancer rehabilitation. There will be the opportunity to support the Therapists running groups (post Covid) whilst being supported with training via Macmillan.

Supervision and regular training , you will be encouraged and supported to acquire and develop skills and knowledge in cancer rehabilitation including attendance at appropriate courses. Opportunities to develop your leadership skills through appraisal, training and supervision of junior staff and students.

In conjunction with the team to develop and participate in training programmes across acute and community MDTs.

In conjunction with the team lead provide regular detailed clinical evaluation of the effectiveness of the role and service.

In conjunction with the team lead to develop a resource (expert advice via a telephone hotline) for MDT colleagues to improve their intervention for patients living with cancer.

To support and delegate to the support worker and the therapy assistant.

To support the team lead with the day to day running of the team.

Essential

  • wide ranging rotational physiotherapy experience at band 5 level including experience in specialist area
  • oExperience in developing and delivering training packages internally, externally to PT & wider MDT.
  • oExperience in leading effective audits & implementing changes as appropriate

Desirable

  • experience of participating in audit and evidence based projects
  • oExperience in supervising staff.
  • oExperience in independent management of caseload across the cancer pathway

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
  • undertaken postgraduate courses in cancer
  • oTo be able to drive a car

Desirable

  • IT skills using hospital data bases, word processing, excel, and powerpoint

  • oAble to deliver complex & sensitive concepts in easily understood language to patients, carers and staff.

  • oAble to work as part of a team, working under pressure.
