Join our Emergency Medicine Consultant Team!
Consultant in Emergency Medicine 11 PAs
The consultant will be part of and contribute to an existing motivated, driven and enthusiastic team of ED consultants providing clinical excellence for patients whilst providing a friendly and richly rewarding environment for doctors in training.
Main duties of the job
There are three main clinical elements and three supporting professional activity elements to the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine namely:
Element 1: Consultant in Charge of the ED
Element 2: ED Consultant (not acting as EPiC)
Element 3: On-Call
About us
Kingston Hospital is a busy, flourishing District General Hospital with approximately 450 beds. The Emergency Department (ED) opened in December 2001 and now sees approximately 125,000 patients per year, with a varied and diverse case mix. The hospital supports some 320,000 people in the surrounding area including the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney, and East Elmbridge. The Department has had considerable capital investment in the last 10 years including a six bedded Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU), Resuscitation area expansion from 5 to 7 cubicles, new collocated Urgent Treatment Centre, expansion of Majors area from 16 to 20 cubicles, mental health assessment unit, co-located SDEC and new Consultant Office space.
The Division, Executive Team and incumbent ED Consultant body are committed to transforming urgent and emergency care services in the Hospital and are looking for an ambitious and motivated individual join us and to help shape and drive the provision of outstanding emergency care.

Essential
- CCT in Emergency Medicine and on GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration
- FRCEM (or Equivalent)
Desirable
- Higher Training qualification relevant to Emergency Medicine
- ALS/APLS/ATLS
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Evidence of recent emergency medicine experience in department/s that manage both adult and paediatric emergencies
Desirable
- Previous UK emergency medicine consultant experience
Management Skills
Essential
- Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role of an emergency medicine consultant.
Desirable
- Attended management training course
- Knowledge of finance/budgets
- Ability to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice
Experience in Training, Audit and Research
Essential
- Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors
- Active involvement in clinical governance activity including audit
- Commitment to continuing professional development, both personally and as a team
Desirable
- Recognised as a Named Clinical and Educational Supervisor by the GMC
