Kingston Hospital is looking to recruit two Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon.
There are 2 dedicated emergency surgical wards, comprising 50 inpatient beds; as well as a dedicated 20 bed elective ward. The hospital has 8 inpatient theatres: 4 day surgery theatres and 2 minor operations suites. Kingston Hospital has been highlighted nationally with regards to its theatre utilisation, being within the top 5 of trusts in England. The department of General Surgery has been an integral component to the delivery of this performance
Main duties of the job
1.) The post holder is expected to provide a first-class service in Upper Gastro-intestinal Surgery and an out-of-hour (on-call) emergency general surgery service (Kingston Hospital only). The post holder will be part of the Acute Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Service and be available to perform 'Hot' operations in CEPOD according to the needs of the department.
2.) The post holder may be expected to contribute to the surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service in SAU.
3.) The post holder will provide a general and upper gastrointestinal surgery service within national guidelines
4.) The post holder will contribute to the general workload of the department but will be encouraged to develop a sub-specialist interest.
