Job summary

The Lead Building Fabric Engineer will act as a 'Appointed Person' for Asbestos and Water and will support the Head of Estates and others to control Working at Height, Confined Spaces and Hot Works through the issuing, monitoring and return of Permits to Work.

You will work alongside highly skilled and experienced estates team to maintain a quality environment for our patients and colleagues. In addition, you will have the benefit of working on our four days on and four days off rota which will gives you an extra twelve rest days every eight weeks when compared to a normal Monday to Friday rota and will be paid enhanced hourly rates at weekends.

To complete both planned & reactive maintenance to a high standard on relevant assets and services within the trust premises. Provide an excellent level of customer care, communication and flexibility when completing work which supports the Trusts Clinical services and Patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Authorised Person will be responsible for the practical implementation and operation of guidance of the relevant HTM and the systems and installations required to control the risks which the Authorised person has been appointed. The duties of the Authorised Person include the appointment in writing of competent persons and make available to the Designated Person a register of all appointments.

The post holder will be responsible for the effective delivery and supervision of repairs, fault-finding and routine planned maintenance to all building Fabric services and equipment at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust ensuring compliance with all Statutory Regulations, HTMs, Trust Standards, policies and procedures.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Building Regulations, and Data Protection. Well-developed problem solving skills.
  • Sound knowledge of workshop safety practices including safe systems of work, risk assessment & COSHH data sheets.
  • Good analytical skills; able to compile, analyse problems and to find solutions.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of four years experience gained whilst undertaking apprenticeship
  • Substantial post training experience across all Building Fabric trades and experience of installation works and fault finding.
  • Experience undertaking surveys and audits (e.g. condition surveys)

Desirable

  • Experience working in a healthcare/NHS environment
  • Experience working alongside other maintenance specialisms (e.g. electrical, plumbing & building trades).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Industry recognised qualification/apprenticeship plus relevant experience to professional level or equivalent training and experience.
  • City and Guilds Part II, NVQ Level 3 or other recognised qualification.
  • Authorised Person' title for all matters relating to building maintenance (e.g. Doors, locks, ceiling and windows infrastructure

Desirable

  • Locksmith accreditation
