Job summary
The Trust Doctor will provide a range of duties as directed by the Consultant/Specialty Trainee (or equivalent) depending on the part of the rota that they are on. These will include:
- Care of patients in the cardiology & general medical beds.
- Routine and acute post take ward rounds.
- Updating family members on clinical progress / discharge planning.
- Assessment of patients in the integrated acute assessment unit (iAAU).
- Multidisciplinary meetings with social workers, physiotherapists etc.
- Prompt completion of discharge summaries and outpatient letters.
- Audit and clinical governance activities
Main duties of the job
Kingston Hospital, CQC 'Outstanding' rated, is a busy 450 bedded acute general hospital. We provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and have a national reputation for innovative developments in healthcare, particularly in 'patient-focused' care and maternity services.
We gained Foundation Trust status in 2013.
There are daily multi-disciplinary 'RAG' board meetings, which focus on a team-based approach to care and discharge planning and twice weekly Consultant ward rounds.
Kingston Hospital has an active post-graduate medical centre and a comprehensive library. There are almost daily teaching sessions including Grand Rounds, SHO teaching and a Journal Clubs. There will be opportunities to participate in educational research/ QIP /audit to support training applications and this post has a study budget attached to the post.
In addition the successful candidate will have access to the doctor's mess.

Kingston Hospital has recently been awarded Foundation Trust status. We serve a population of approximately 320,000 in Kingston, Esher, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney and other parts of South West London.
The area is one of the most attractive "green" areas in the outer London region, almost entirely surrounded by river, three Royal Parks and open countryside. Commitments arising in such circumstances are, however, exceptional and Trust Doctors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis. In emergency situations the Trust doctor may be asked to provide additional on-call cover.
