Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dynamic and highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly Speech and Language Therapy Team.
The successful candidates will become part of the rotational Band 6 posts and will have the opportunity to work between the Acute Stroke Unit, Care of the Elderly, Medical and Surgical wards and Critical Care. This post provides an exceptional opportunity for an SLT to further develop their skills in a large district general hospital and specialise in acute clinical areas, under the support of Specialist SLTs and the Principal SLT.
You will ideally have a proven track record in the independent management of a busy adult acute caseload and enjoy working within a highly pressured environment, with a high throughput of patients. Experience of working with swallowing and communication difficulties in an acute setting is essential. Training opportunities within the department and specialist supervision will be provided during the assigned rotations.
The SLT department have a comprehensive Supervision structure in place, along with regular Evidenced- Based Practice meetings and various learning sessions. We are a small but innovative department with a big emphasis on teamwork.
Main duties of the job
To provide an effective, evidenced-based Speech and Language Therapy Service to the post-holders own caseload of acute adult in-patients with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties. The post-holder will work across all Specialities and work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
To demonstrate the ability to manage an autonomous caseload on the acute wards. This will include the assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and management of acquired adult swallowing and communication disorders.
To demonstrate development of specialist knowledge in this clinical area, underpinned by current evidence based practice and outcome measures.
To demonstrate the ability to work independently, or as part of a team, in the management of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.
To demonstrate highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
