Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Maternity Support Worker to join the Maternity Practice Development Team (PDM) at Kingston Hospital.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to support and develop our Maternity Assistants and Maternity Support Workers (MSW) with their clinical skills and ongoing training.

The successful candidate will have a vested interest in teaching and education with a desire to develop the workforce.

The job role is full time 37.5 hours working a mixture of 12-hour shift patterns to include days (07:15 - 19:45), nights (19:45 - 07:15) and weekends.

Interviews will be held in person on the 15th February 2023.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team, to provide a safe and holistic approach to women-centred care. To work alongside the midwifery team to ensure MSW staff are providing excellent standards of patient care at all times, which will include taking responsibility for the clinical areas, stocking and maintaining essential equipment.

The post holder will provide support to existing and new maternity assistants and maternity support workers and provide ongoing learning opportunities.

The post holder will be part of the Practice Development Team, whose main focus will be to expand on the education and learning experience of Maternity Assistants, Maternity Support Workers and other non-clinical staff.

The post holder will be responsible for participating in the recruitment process, organisation, and support during induction programme for newly appointed staff, support the completion of the Care Certificate, as well as ongoing development of existing staff.

As part of the PDM team you will have responsibility for supporting and overseeing the welfare of MSW's with regular forums, training and disseminating department changes.

The post holder will support with the implementation of the nationally defined MSW competency education and career development framework.

The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in quality improvement initiatives.
