Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic network engineer, who is keen to not only help maintain existing systems but to also implement new and exciting systems within the NHS.

The postholder will help maintain the network infrastructure within the Trust, and support the IT Project Manager implementing new projects.

The postholder will be jointly responsible for all aspects of network security, including firewalls, encryption, policies and any other information security technology,

The scope of this role covers all fixed and wireless networks, and security components across the Hospital site and the community, as well as any physical interfaces to other organisations.

Main duties of the job

  1. Preparing project briefs, technical assessments, RFCs and other support documents
  2. Provide advice to IT project managers and other project team members on what would be the acceptable approach within the IT strategy and policies
  3. Assist the project team to deliver the most appropriate solutions
  4. Interpret technical or procedure manuals on behalf of non-technical users and provide appropriate advice.
  5. Manage technical project issues, including initial diagnoses and provision of advice on known solutions, where applicable.
  6. Ensure an effective interface between external commercial suppliers, users and the project team. This includes documenting problems, progress checking, and ensuring all diagnostic information is provided for project issue resolution and analysis.
  7. Coordinate installs, configuration, testing and commissioning of servers, applications and connectivity. Help document support procedures. Provide information on updates, known errors, new features etc.
  8. Act as a liaison with the Network Services Team.
  9. Ensure that all hardware and software being installed meets agreed standards, is fully compatible with the Trust IM&T and IT Technical strategy and allows a successful transition from the previous platform or process.
