Job summary

We are seeking motivated and dynamic Band 6 Operations Security Analyst to work within the newly established NELFT's Information Security (IS) Team. The IS team is responsible for the implementation, operation and continued improvements to information security controls / processes to protect The Trust's information and systems assets from the ever increasing and evolving cyber threats.

Main duties of the job

The Security Operations Analyst will be responsible for:

  • The implementation, operation and continued improvements to information security controls / processes to protect The Trust's information and systems assets from the ever increasing and evolving cyber threats.
  • Identifying, investigating, and responding to security threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents. The role will monitor and analyse security events, detect anomalies and malicious activities, and help to protect The Trust's information and system assets. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the security of all infrastructure, systems, and data and provide reports to management on security performance and compliance.
  • Monitoring for and resolving alerts from The Trust's internal security tools and external security alert notifications. This monitoring will be done with both direct accesses, where available, to security monitoring/notifications as well as in liaison with IT Infrastructure teams.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).

The role requires specialist skills in stakeholder management. Of importance is the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the skill to manage conflicting demands and tensions of a broad range of stakeholders.

The post holder is expected to be an experienced Security Operations Analyst with at least 2 years experience including, but not limited to (please see full Job Description) :

  • Technical knowledge of Security systems: Microsoft Server Security, Network Security, IDS/IPS; Endpoint security including antivirus and DLP; Log Management; Vulnerability Management
  • Analysing security alerts to determine false positives
  • Escalating positive security events to the appropriate team for further analysis and remediation
  • Ensuring timely remediation of vulnerabilities (e.g. patching)
  • Establishing security incident reporting and management processes.
  • Producing reports on performance of security tooling
  • ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Developing controls and process performance metrics
