Job summary

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment to patients on the Stroke Unit with a variety of complex neurological needs, taking into consideration the patient's physical/cognitive/perceptual skills to identify the patient's abilities and areas of difficulty.
  • Taking a role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants, through supervision, training and appraisal.
  • Achieving and maintaining quality care through the delivery of evidence based practice and adherence with national guidance.
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team across the Stroke and Neurology pathway liaising and supporting our therapy colleagues in the community as required.

Falling with the remit of Stroke and Neurology services within NELFT's Acute and Rehabilitation Directorate, there are strong working relationships between our inpatient and community staff within this pathway. This enables us to provide joint in-service training as well as opportunities to participate within our multidisciplinary stroke forum group.

There is a well-established appraisal system and a commitment to support staff to develop leadership and clinical skills through regular supervision, our structured in-service programme and internal and external training opportunities.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).
