Job summary

The communications team is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and creative designer to join the team as a part-time Design and Content Assistant.

This is an exciting job-share role within a busy NHS communications team with the opportunity to work on a range of designs, publications and digital content.

Aim of the role:

The post holder will be expected to support their team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust's Values in their day to day work. These are the 5Ps:

The post holder will achieve this by:

  • Producing clear, accessible, understandable patient information and administering the approval process for it
  • Designing and producing newsletters, posters and other publications using the corporate brand and NHS brand
  • Supporting the production of digital content such as video.

Main duties of the job

  • This is a job share for 18.75 hrs a week.
  • Apply the Trust's visual identity and brand in all communications work.
  • Support client services to develop a clear brief for work required, keeping them informed of progress and providing good customer service.
  • Help produce clear, accessible, understandable patient information working with relevant services and subject matter experts.
  • Design and layout communications materials such as posters, leaflets, reports, infographics etc.
  • Administer the process for approving and reviewing patient information to ensure it is up to date and meets patient needs and legal requirements.
  • Maintain log of all design requests from services and manage the design inbox.
  • Support integrated communications campaigns.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in systems and processes used in the design and print industry.
  • Help proof read and edit others' content to ensure accuracy, readability and quality.
  • Work effectively with partner agencies to ensure a collaborative and consistent approach to communications.
  • Publish content on a range of platforms and channels, digital and traditional using appropriate systems, including web content management, email and e-newsletter systems and using own judgement to select appropriate channels and content.

About us

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436).
