Job summary
Following an extensive review of Psychological Professions across NELFT, a new structure for the leadership within Mental Health and Wellness Teams (previously known as Community Mental Health Teams) has been created. In partnership with a fellow Community Psychology / Trauma Informed Care lead, the Psychological Professional Lead will oversee the safe delivery and high quality of the psychological provision for adults (18 years plus) with complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties in Barking and Dagenham. The new structure allows for integration of psychological provision within the multidisciplinary offer whilst maintaining professional identity. The structure allows for a responsive, holistic offer of care to Users of Service.
Main duties of the job
Barking and Dagenham are diverse areas within North East London with a combined population of 220,000 people and a range of ethnicities (44.9% of the population is White; 25.9% are Asian; 21.4% are Black; 4.3% from mixed background; 3.6% other - reference: Barking, Havering and Redbridge Joint Strategic Needs assessment, 2022), religions and languages spoken. The place-based partnership priorities for Barking and Dagenham include reducing health inequalities, building community resilience, improving mental health. Key challenges for the area include the cost of living crisis and debt, social isolation and generational unemployment.
A new pathway for psychological provision within the Barking and Dagenham Mental Health and Wellness Teams has been created which ensures a system approach working in partnership with Talking Therapies services to ensure that people referred into our service are offered a speedy triage and meaningful intervention at the earliest possible opportunity. The offer and range of evidence-based therapies has been enhanced to ensure that there is equitable access to high quality therapy for all.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).

They will have the needs of Users of Service at the heart of all their work and ensure that Staff feel supported, contained and innovated to deliver the best possible care. They will be able to integrate well with multidisciplinary colleagues, whilst working as a core member of the team and ensuring that psychological provision is a core component of the range of offers available to Users of Service . They will be adaptable, flexible and reflective and will be able to manage a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a compassionate leadership approach throughout. They will be responsive to the needs of both Staff members and Users of Service.
The postholder will oversee a supervisory structure for all Psychological Professionals within the pathway for the core Mental Health and Wellness Team offer. They will ensure quality, frequency, skills-matching and strategy for supervision with the aim of best possible delivery of care to Users of Service.
The postholder will become part of the Trust-wide Psychological Professional Strategic Advisory Group and will meet regularly with other Consultant Psychological Professionals across NELFT to develop innovations and progress delivery. The postholder will also have a group of peers across the London boroughs of NELFT with whom to strategically develop the offer within Mental Health and Wellness Teams. They will work closely with both clinical and operational colleagues in Barking and Dagenham.
