Job summary
Do you have a passion for Paediatric nursing and supporting families and children with additional needs? We are seeking motivated, forwarding thinking and dynamic individual looking for a new challenge to join the Special School Nursing team. The team sits under the wider umbrella of the Specialist Children's Community Nursing Team and provides excellent quality nursing care for children with Complex Needs attending Special Schools in Waltham Forest. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to provide care to children across Waltham Forest in their homes, in school clinics and in Special School settings. The aim is to provide an excellent standard of Nursing care to enable children to achieve their best possible potential.Excellent communication skills are essential as well as sound knowledge of current nursing best practice. The ability to work as an effective team member across the Specialist Children's Nursing Teams as well as the wider Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies is essential.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- To plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions within the community settings, including Specialist Education Provision for children and young people.
- To support the transition processes for children and young people with complex Health and Special Needs, taking the lead where appropriate
- To work with Social, Educational, Health Colleagues, parents and young people to develop joint care plans and packages of care.
- To involve parents, children and young people and encourage them to make informed choices concerning their health and well-being.
- To work without direct supervision at times, and to be responsible for the management of own workload
- To provide up to date and skilled nursing care for example: care of enteral feeding devices, management of seizures, care of tracheostomies, suctioning and other interventions.
- To participate in the identification, referral and support of children and young people with additional needs
- To compile health care plans for children and young people in consultation with the wider multi-disciplinary team, child, and family
- To contribute to individual Education, Health, and Social Care plans.
- To maintain and to further develop own professional practice in line with the needs of the service.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).
