Job summary
North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) hosts a range of applications / databases supporting key business and clinical departments. The post holder is part of a team that is responsible for all functions relating to the technical integration of these systems as well as the development of new application functionality in line with the Trusts service improvement strategy.
The post holder is part of a team which is responsible for the production and development of user and support documentation and delivery of technical briefings to all levels of Trust management. Consequently, advanced communication and documentation skills and a highly developed command of the English language are required.
The post holder will be involved directly by providing support to the Third Line and Helpdesk teams in their day-to-day duties. A proven ability to control and manage crisis and disaster situations, such as critical system outages is a necessity.
The post holder will be required to provide direction, instructions and guidance to individuals within the team. The role would involve developing strategies for the team to be able to reach their goals.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to support their team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust's Values in their day-to-day work. These are the 5P's:

The post holder will design, implement, and provide performance tuning and support of the entire Database infrastructure. They will also liaise Database users across the Trust to distribute best practice, work on projects and to troubleshoot problems.
The post holder will perform a key role within the Software and Databases Team which delivers services based on SQL Server 2000/5/8/12/14, Microsoft`s.NET, PHP, Java, JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax, C#, Restful API's, CLR functions, SharePoint 2010/2016 server technologies and Mobile applications (IOS and Android) which are already published and new development. The team is responsible for the ongoing support and development of the Trust website and intranet as well as the strategic planning and implementation of new systems, providing technical support and advice to project groups and documentation of Trust standards on the latest database and development technologies.
About us
Starting with NELFTNELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary PeriodThis post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum pro rata).

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and ensure uptime of critical databases.
- Design, test and develop Trust-wide applications to support patient care. Subsequently, be responsible for the ongoing development of these applications ensuring key aspects of functionality are improved via regular upgrades, designed in partnership with clinical management.
- Be responsible for the full solution planning, design, development, implementation and integration of Trust-wide systems and databases, including the management of implementation and deployment teams. Ensuring change management controls are implemented and adhered to with regard to changes in functionality and configuration of interfaces and applications developed by the Software and Database team.
- Serve as the first point of contact for any tasks related to the Software and Database team.
- Develop strategies for the team to achieve their goals as effectively and efficiently as possible.
- Communicate clear instructions to team members and manage the flow of day-to-day operations.
