Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust as a band 5 rotational Occupational Therapist.

Rotations cover the following specialities:

  • Frailty
  • Children's Integrated Therapies Service (CITS)
  • Acute Medicine & Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Acute & Rehab of Older Adults
  • Neurology
  • The Stroke Unit

The rotations offer diverse settings where you will develop core OT skills and consolidate your skills completing the OT process. You will develop specialist skills in each rotation and as a newly qualified Occupational Therapist you will be supported to transition from student to professional via the preceptorship programme.

The post holder will primarily work at Hillingdon, however the trust is split and we have another site at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood. The post holder will also have an opportunity to have a paediatric rotation with our close community partners in Central North West London.

To complete the OT process within a physical health setting, with a wide variety of clinical presentations.

To provide effective patient centred occupational therapy, to patients who may have complex needs in accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

To devise, implement and evaluate individual treatment and interventions.

To work effectively and efficiently on an individual and team level, within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain clear communication networks with staff, patients, and carers.

Main duties of the job

Main tasks and responsibilities

As part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assess the suitability of patients for provision of OT interventions following a referral.

To carry out specific standardised and non-standardised OT assessment(s) within your designated caseload.

To plan and implement appropriate intervention programmes in the hospital, home and community environments according to need.

To ensure ongoing monitoring and evaluation of intervention programmes.

To act as resource and offer support to patient and relatives / carers.

To support the delivery of occupational therapy in other clinical area as appropriate and necessary according to service need.

Appropriately delegate identified tasks to assistant or support staff.

Communication and Partnership Working

To effectively communicate with patient, their relatives and carers, and all other relevant parties involved with the patient's care.

To maintain the role of OT as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

To communicate and liaise, formally and informally, at all times with the team or appropriate others with regards to OT involvement with all patients in the treatment programme.

To participate in all relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.

To attend relevant meetings and feedback to appropriate individuals.

To participate in presentations to patients regarding occupational therapy interventions - e.g. through patient education classes as part of Joint Replacement School.
