Kennedy ward is a friendly 30 bedded acute surgical ward, which caters for both male and female patients. We provide care for Orthopaedic trauma patients. We also look after general surgery patients, including gynaecology and urology patients.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a band 5 staff nurse to join our forward thinking team. We are currently seeking a keen and enthusiastic individual who is looking to make a positive change and improve patient care. You will participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting senior staff and taking delegated responsibilities. You will also be responsible for assessing care needs and the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
It is essential to have at least 1 year experience on a surgical ward or healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job
- Participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and Sister

To asses and provide holistic treatment and care to patients, ensuring all patients receive a high-quality service.

To assess care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and to act as a role model to junior staff.
- To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients
- Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patient's physical, social and psychological needs are met.
- Ensure that all patients nutritional and personal hygiene needs are met.
- Adhere to strict compliance with Trust Infection Control policies and procedures and ensure junior staff and learners are aware of their responsibility, observe staff practice and advise/educate as necessary.
- Assist with the introduction and implementation of new ideas and methods of nursing care, including research methods.
- To actively seek the views of patients, carers and relatives on the care and services provided.
- Communicate effectively with relatives, patients, and other members of multi disciplinary team as required and ensure a good public image at all times, in a sensitive manner, by keeping them up to date with progress.
