Job summary

Develop a comprehensive volunteering strategy for the Trust (including the Trust's charity), to build the positive impact of volunteering for our staff and patients.

Work in partnership with senior and operational management across the organisation to identify areas of need, and develop appropriate volunteer role profiles.

To develop our volunteer recruitment and management processes, to meet the needs of the trust for volunteers, and ensure recruitment and development of suitably qualified / skilled volunteers.To contribute to forward planning by keeping up to date with national and local developments and then making recommendations to the Charity Director and Trust Board regarding future developments of volunteer services.

To build strong links with the community, including with local public, private, voluntary and non-voluntary organisations and statutory bodies.To work closely with the Trust's Charity, to maximise opportunities for mutual benefit (for example through charity supporters also volunteering for the Trust, or vice versa.

To liaise with other Trusts with successful Volunteering programmes to ensure that we learn from them in delivering a class-leading service.

Main duties of the job

Develop systems to ensure all volunteer activity within the trust is managed effectively, responsibly, and safely - developing highly effective systems for recruitment, induction, training, management and development of volunteers.

Research and seek both seed and ongoing funding for the Volunteer programme from independent charitable trusts and statutory founders.

To ensure that volunteering policies, procedures, role descriptions and guidelines are in place, regularly updated and monitored.To have overall responsibility for the recruitment, selection and placement of all volunteers throughout the organisation, and ensuring that all necessary pre-volunteering checks are carried out as required.

To develop appropriate training and induction programmes for all volunteers in liaison with Departmental Managers.

To be responsible for ensuring that individual volunteers are adequately supported and that appropriate "on-the-job" support and supervision is provided by Line Managers.

To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the volunteering programme.To ensure that your own knowledge about volunteers services provision is up to date and at an appropriate level.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics.
