Applications are invited for this 9 PA lead consultant post.

This post has been developed to increase integrated working across the acute Trust (3PAs) and the Hospice (6PAs), and to continue leadership across the Borough - the current Lead Clinician at Michael Sobell/Harlington Hospice is planning retirement, and the current Trust EOLC Lead Clinician is changing role.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will play a key role in realising our ambition tointegratehigh quality palliative and end of life care services, aligned to a coherent End of Life Care strategy, through the strong partnership between Hillingdon Health and Care Partners (HHCP): the Trust, community and voluntary sector partners within the Borough of Hillingdon, and the new Integrated Care System in North-west London. They will do this by providing direct clinical care and, with ample time in the job plan, strategic leadership at both THHFT and MSH.

The post holder will join four other Palliative Medicine Consultants, who as a team have responsibility for providing palliative care support withinthe inpatient unit at Michael Sobell Hospice (MSH - part of Harlington Hospice),The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (THHFT), and the Hillingdon community.

About us

The postholder will work primarily across MSH and THHFT. In addition, the postholder will have access to the resources of the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), andEnhancedPalliative Care nursing beds atHayes Cottage and Parkfield Care Homes.MVCC is the largest single site Cancer Centre in the South of England and has extensive research resources. It is 5 miles north of The Hillingdon Hospital, and on the same site as MSH.

The Hospice re-opened in 2020 just prior to the pandemic after a period of closure by the NHS. It has been taken over by Harlington Hospice and is flourishing now with an excellent reputation with referrers, patients and families.

There will be ample opportunity to engage in departmental service delivery improvement projects, education programmes and research interests. There is scope for new workstreams depending on the post holder's existing subspeciality interests, and flexibility on the number of sessions may be considered for the right candidate.
