Job summary
We are looking for a confident and motivated Paediatric Dietitian to join our Dietetic and Speech Therapy Team at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Our friendly team consists of 11 Dietitians, 7 Speech & Language Therapists, 3 administrators and a service manager.
The clinical case-load includes providing a high quality, evidence-based general dietetic service to the children's ward and general dietetic paediatric outpatient clinics. There will be the opportunity to develop skills in other specialist areas of paediatric dietetics including NICU, Diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis. The post holder will be involved in educatingstaff on matters relating to nutrition and catering and will supervise student dietitians on placements 2 & 3. The post holder will be expected to manage their caseload independently and will be involved in department wide projects and service improvements. There is also the opportunity to develop leadership skills through leading for CPD across the dietetic team.
There will be an expectation for clinical audit within this post, and also to contribute to the wider Inpatient Therapy Governance agenda, and there are excellent opportunities and guidance for ongoing personal development. There is a well established borough-wide Dietetic network who offers peer support as well as MDT peer support.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
1. To deliver specialised nutrition and dietetic advice to a paediatric in and outpatients at The Hillingdon Hospital.
2. To be able to work independently and manage a significant clinical caseload.
3. To be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, evidence based dietetic service to a case load of paediatric in and out patients within a variety of settings.
4. To act as an expert resource on nutrition and educate and train dietetic students and other health care professionals within the Trust
5. To contribute to policy development on matters relating to nutrition and dietetics.
6. To be actively involved in the development and implementation of local guidelines relating to these specialist areas7. To be actively involved in the Trust's clinical governance programme by taking lead responsibility for ensuring continuing professional development, audit, research and service development activities within this specialist area.

The Hillingdon Hospital is a busy district general hospital in North West London and has a diverse patient population. It is situated close to Heathrow Airport and Brunel University and within a 10 minute commute by public transport to Uxbridge Town Centre which has excellent transport links to central London. Clinical:1. To be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive Nutrition & Dietetic service for paediatric in and out patients working within the British Dietetic Association (BDA) Professional Code of Conduct and the HCPC Professional Standards of Practice.
2. To work autonomously to provide expert nutrition advice and therapeutic support to patients, carers and other health care professionals. This requires collation of highly complex information including:-a. Nutritional assessment, diagnosis and interpretation of biochemistry, haematology, anthropometric data, clinical condition, social & cultural factors and diet history.b. Development of treatment plans which include calculation of nutritionalrequirements, patient centered goals and treatment outcomes.c. Prescription of dietary treatment using ACBS products for conditions adhering to professional/ clinical guidelines
3. To take the lead in providing expert dietetic advice to the relevant multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and ward rounds. To liaise with all members of the team to advise on treatment and dietary management for patients and their families and carers.
4. To make recommendations to the medical team regarding adaptation ofmedication/nutritional supplements/food for the management of nutrition support patients based on interpretation of biochemical parameters and clinical signs.
5. To provide clinical leadership in area of specialism by providing a service to more complex clinical cases with support from senior dietitians
6. To provide dietetic input on catering issues
7. To ensure safe and timely discharge of patients on home enteral feeding liaising with appropriate internal and external agencies
