North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium acute District General Hospital in Enfield North London that serves the diverse communities of Enfield, Haringey and beyond.
Our General Ultrasound scan department operates a comprehensive 7-day service with 5 on-site general Ultrasound scanning rooms, 7 Obstetric scan rooms, 2 gynaecology scan rooms and 2 scan r rooms in Women's Ambulatory Day Unit. The antenatal obstetric Ultrasound scan services are available Monday to Saturday. We operate limited sessions in Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) twice a week.
Due to a recent vacancy, we are looking for an agile part time permanent sonographer to join our team of Sonographers and contribute to ongoing commitments to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery. They must be competent in General, Gynaecology and Obstetrics Ultrasound scanning including independent diagnostic report writing.
The successful candidate would be expected to participate in weekend and evening rota, however a degree of flexibility is possible with many of our Sonographers working compressed hours to allow a 3 or 4 day working week.

Main duties of the job
To demonstrate skills in a wide range of obstetric and general ultrasound examinations, including transvaginal scanning.
To maintain professional occupational standards of technical skill and legally take responsibility to ensure a high standard of clinical care.
To interpret and analyse findings in accordance with agreed protocols.
To explain the abnormal ultrasound findings to obstetric patients and make appropriate referrals to the Clinicians.
To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients in working area, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
To independently provide a diagnostic report on all examinations.
To be able to appropriately communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information about scan findings to patients and their family.
Demonstrate excellence in one or more sub-specialities, when required.
To participate in the Quality Assurance Programme in accordance with the policies of the department including equipment care and maintenance.
To have a flexible approach towards working hours in order to address service needs and maximise efficient use of equipment.

The merger of North Mid into the RFL group is currently expected to take place on 1 January 2025, subject to NHS England and Secretary of State approval.
