The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced hospital pharmacist with good clinical skills and managerial skills with a working knowledge of the medicines optimisation agenda.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Pharmacist for Rheumatology / Gastroenterology (including endoscopy),

  • Is responsible for leading, developing and evaluating the clinical pharmacy service to these speciality areas.
  • Is responsible for providing highly specialist clinical pharmacy practice and being a pharmacy role model.
  • Is responsible for providing highly specialist service to Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Service for in and outpatients and day cases e.g. bespoke Medicine Management schemes.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are in place to promote high quality drug use, effective risk management, patient safety - clinical governance initiatives and adherence to trust policies and guidelines and advises on drug budget management in these areas
  • Provides support as required to the clinical pharmacy services, dispensary, production and medicine information services and medicines management programme.
  • Assists in planning and delivery of education and training within the pharmacy department and Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and other areas as appropriate.
  • Carries out pharmacy practice research and clinical audit in this area of practice.
  • Manages the pharmacy team working in this speciality area.
