North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust

Job summary

ABC Parents is a team of paediatric doctors, nurses, resuscitation officers and medical students from North Middlesex Hospital who volunteer to deliver health education for the local community.

ABC Parents aims to improve parents' knowledge and confidence when faced with childhood illnesses and injuries. We currently offer free two-day courses for local parents to learn life-saving skills, first aid, healthcare resources and preventative strategies. The courses are open to parents, carers, expectant mums and dads, grandparents and anyone who cares for a child in Enfield or Haringey.

The initiative also facilitates peer support for parents/carers to develop social networks, decrease isolation and improve mental health and wellbeing

Our network of empowered ABC Parents shares advice and knowledge to maintain and manage health and wellbeing of their children. The ambition of this New Parents programme is to roll out the pilot in the most deprived wards in both boroughs. Recognising that deprivation leads to health inequalities, social isolation and a poorer start in life worsened by the recent coronavirus pandemic, this program is training local volunteers to support families, particularly where a language barrier exists. Volunteers are recruited from the local community and ABC network to become Child Health Champions. Together with the outreach team, midwives, health visitors, GPs and the voluntary sector, they will establish peer support groups across the community.

Main duties of the job

This Senior Clinical Lead and Project Manager Lead role is designed to steer the development, partnerships and implementation required for the success of the ABC Parents program. The post holder will provide program leadership bringing together educational, transformational, and clinical activities embedding this innovative program into our trust and community.

The postholder, working alongside the Senior Project Manager for 0-19 Community Division, will have responsibility for the strategic direction, leadership, and management of the ABC Parents program.

The Project Manager will have managerial responsibility for the development and delivery of an effective and efficient change program. This will require the ability to support planning across all areas of the program and the ability to influence and deliver successfully in a complex, multi-organizational and multi-professional networked model. Senior Clinical Leadership will involve further development of the Train the Trainer model and multidisciplinary recruitment and teaching to deliver the ABC Parents Courses and workshops. Addressing health and care inequalities is crucial to this program so innovative, contemporary, and family-centred solutions will be required. The program brings together multidisciplinary teams, voluntary and statutory organisations working to the shared goal of ABC, "Achieving a Better Community."

About us

North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system - consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS's, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
