Job summary

The fracture clinic forms part of the outpatient's department and deals with both acute fractures and orthopaedic conditions. Each consultant and their team have a specific morning or afternoon for their fracture clinic. There are daily clinics from Monday to Friday, for trauma patients who have been directly referred from the emergency department and in patient. We have a Matron and department Manager in post who are passionate and committed to the staff and improving patient experience.

The department is part of a multi-disciplinary team working under the Trauma and Orthopedic directorate. It is responsible for most of the casting services within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post is for a Band 4 Assistant/Trainee Technician. After working within the Plaster Room for a minimum period of 18 months, there will be a view to attending a 5-week Musculo-skeletal Casting and Splinting course at The Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, Stanmore. Following successful completion of this course, examination and written assignment, the candidate will work as a Qualified Orthopedic Technician at Band 5 level.

Trainee Technicians assess, plan, implement and evaluate care episodes under the direct supervision of the Senior Practitioner.

To contribute towards the effective running of the Plaster Room.

To be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs in relation to and developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care for patients in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines.

To support the plastering service for the orthopedic wards, clinics, theatres, fracture clinics and Emergency Department.

To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

  • Good General Education, including Math's and English (GCSE level or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of Anatomy

  • HCSW care certificate
