Job summary
The post holder will have the responsibility to carry out nursing care to patients admitted to the Magnolia Unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
Take responsibility for own competency for the delivery of patient care and work within agreed competencies to provide care to patients.
Use a degree of initiative while working within the parameters of the Unit's policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
- To work within agreed competencies to provide care to patients, e.g., personal care, oral hygiene, toileting, nutrition, and hydration.
- Use appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment when assisting patients with transfers, mobility, and positioning.
- Assist with the management of patient continence, bowel and bladder care while maintaining patient privacy and dignity.
- Perform nursing procedures under the direction of a trained nurse, including undertaking protective dressings, blood sugar monitoring and routine observations, i.e., urine testing, monitoring temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation monitoring and blood pressure and report abnormal findings in line with local guidelines.
- Ensure patients receive appropriate and adequate nutrition and hydration. Be involved in the documentation, monitoring and assistance at mealtimes and provide feedback to trained staff.
- Prepare bed spaces in preparation for admissions and following discharges in line with local guidelines, adhering to IPC procedures.
- Be responsive and supportive to the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual well being of each individual within the unit, positively contributing to team working.
- Recognise situations that may be detrimental to health and safety and act within the health and safety guidelines of the unit.
- Awareness of role limitations and perform duties appropriate to role.

- Participate in and encourage patient social engagement including social activities i.e., reminiscence groups / OT workshops / laundry/mealtime group/music appreciation.
